What Is An Anal Fistula?

A fistula is the formation of a connection-canal in the body which should not normally exist.

This canal in the rectal area is between the intestinal area and skin close to anus. (Perianal fistula)

Anal fistula is more frequently encountered in males than in females.

Anal fistula is seen between the age range of 20 to 60 and averagely on 40 years of age.

There are glands of hair and sweat called crypta in the region that opens to the location where the anal canal connects with skin. A canal is created between the intestine and skin in the case these glands are inflamed. This is called an anal fistula. An anal fistula is classified according to the region and muscles it involves.
